The concept for Headley Grange came somewhere in the Summer of 2011 while we were in the midst of finalizing the blend that would become our first release, Four Kicks.  A tweet was posted to the effect of, “I wish we could blend a cigar that tastes the way the drums sound on ‘When The Levee Breaks.”  The steady sound of John Bonham’s drums on that track are unforgettable: heavy, plodding, ominous, and thick.  What may not be as widely known as that signature drum sound, is that Headley Grange is a former poorhouse built in 1795 in Headley, East Hampshire, England, UK.  Headley Grange is best known as a recording venue in the 1960s and 1970s.  The acoustics of the room at Headley Grange in which ‘When The Levee Breaks’ was recorded is what is credited in large part for giving Bonham’s drum lead-in on that track that unmistakable sound.

Headley Grange is a truly unique blend that has been described as “big, bold, and gutsy.”
